8 December 1910 - West Branch Times

Charles Stratton was born near Augusta, Columbiana Co., Ohio, Jan. 29, 1828. As a young man he learned the cabinet-makers trade and later became an expert millwright and machinist.

He was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Ball Oct. 19th, 1849. Ten years later they came to Iowa to live and settled at West Liberty where they made their home for many years. To this union were born four children, who are left to mourn a kind and indulgent father. They are Lizzie Stratton of Chicago, Nellie Henderson of Davenport, Frank Stratton of Chicago, and Mae McFadden of near Chicago, all of whom were privileged to attend his funeral. The wife and mother preceeded him to the better world 34 years ago. His death occurred from a general breakdown incident to old age and he passed quietly away at the home of his daughter Mae McFadden Dec. 1, 1910, aged 82 years, 10 months and 2 days.

The remains were brought to West Liberty and the funeral was held from the home of Miss Lyde Ball, conducted by Rev. Scoles. The burial was in the beautiful cemetery near town.
