Fred Hoffman, Lifelong Local Resident, Dies

Fred W. Hoffman, 61, former Muscatine chief of police and lifelong resident, died at 3:15 p.m., Saturday at Hershey hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Hoffman was born in Muscatine on May 2, 1885, the son of John H. and Katherine Bloomer Hoffman. He married Emma G. Jagow on Jan. 10, 1912 in Muscatine. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and was a retired leather worker. Mr. Hoffman served as chief of the Muscatine police department from 1911 to 1914.
Surviving are his wife; three brothers, W. F. Hoffman, John M. Hoffman, both of Muscatine, and August C. Hoffman, Los Angeles; two sisters, Katherine Eberling, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Fred Walton, Des Moines. His parents, one brother and a sister preceded him in death.
The body is at the George M. Wittich Funeral home where services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday by Dr. R. M. Shipman, pastor of the First Methodist church. Masonic services will also be held at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.
