DEATH CALLS MELZER DAY, OLD RESIDENT

Had Lived in Davenport Prior to Removal to Muscatine 30 Years Ago.

Muscatine, Ia., Feb. 13. -- Melzer Day a resident of Muscatine for the past 30 years, died at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home of his son, George Day, 1074 1/2 Hershey avenue, after an illness of several days. Death was due to heart trouble.

Mr. Day was born May 2, 1842, in Pennsylvania, and had resided for a time in Davenport before coming to Muscatine. He was united in marriage to Margaret Thompson at Davenport in 1874. Eleven children were born to the union. His wife and two daughters preceded him in death. Mr. Day had farmed for many years.

The following children survive: George, with whom he made his home; Earl, Wesley, Fred, Elmus and Arthur of Muscatine; Glenn of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Maggie Hartman of Clinton, Iowa, and Stephen, of Madison Wis. Twenty-four grandchildren and eight [great] grandchildren, also survive, with two brothers, Homer Day of Barstow, Ill.; Asa Day of Marshalltown, Iowa.

The body was taken to the Fairbanks mortuary, pending burial arrangements.
