DAVENPORT — Kenneth R. Plumb, 79, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Genesis Medical Center-West Central Park, Davenport.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Nichols (Iowa) Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club of Davenport or the Davenport American Legion Post No. 26. Kenneth was born April 29, 1936, in Iowa City, the son of Stephen A. and Gladys (Kerr) Plumb. He served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Combat Engineering Battalion during the Korean conflict.

He was united in marriage to Shirley M. Braun on July 1, 1962, in Davenport.

Ken earned his B.A. in science from St. Ambrose University in 1972. He had worked in metallurgical sales for Leeds Northrup Corp. for 35 years and had also taught school at Sacred Heart School prior to his retirement.

His memberships included the Davenport America Legion Post No. 26, where he had served as past commander. He also supported the Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities, having recently been a passenger on one of the flights.

His other love was genealogy and was active in the Scott, Muscatine and Rock Island county genealogical societies. He loved traveling, especially to the East Coast, and enjoyed researching family genealogy.

Kenneth was a devoted husband and father with a strong Christian belief and will be greatly missed.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Shirley, Davenport; sons, Kevin D (Frances) and Alan J., both of Davenport; sister-in-law, Carole Plumb, Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Steven, Jesse and Phillip; and sisters, Vivian, Phyllis, Elizabeth and Gwendolyn.
