Almon Hillyer

Almon L. "Knute” Hillyer, 65, of Route I, died Tuesday, April 26, 1988, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Jan. 23, 1923, in Canaan, Conn., he was the son of John Sr. and Mary Howe Hillyer. He married Helen McKean March 13, 1943, in Iowa City.
He was the owner of Hillyer Trucking Co. before retiring. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion and the Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife; one son, Lindal Hillyer, Osceola; two daughters, Alice Hillyer, Burlington, and Mary King, Corning; his father, Nichols; one brother, John Hillyer Jr., Middletown; four sisters, Ethel Green, Nichols, Genevieve Still, Coonsville, Jeanette Carlile, Muscatine, and Grace Krolak, Peru, Ill.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sheagren Funeral Home.
The service for Mr. Hillyer will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sheagren Funeral Home with the Rev. James Seibert officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Grace United Methodist Church.

NOTE: Knute graduated from Nichols High School with the Class of 1940.
