Alberta Toussaint, 109, of Muscatine died on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville, Wis.

TheRalph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Reverend Cindy Axtell of Musserville United Methodist church will officate.

Alberta was born on Jan. 20, 1905, in Muscatine, the daughter of Edgar Poe and Alice Berry Latham. She married Herbert A. Toussaint on Aug. 27, 1923, in Muscatine.

Alberta was genuine, loving, lighthearted and always positive. She lived a modest life, remaining grateful through difficult times and keeping God close to her heart. She touched the lives of most who met her and will be remembered for her artistry in petit point, knitting, crocheting and dried flower framing. She shared her love of cooking and music with so many generations of loved ones, including her great great grandchildren. Her sense of humor was infectious; she might tell you the secret to living so long was eating buckwheat pancakes with sorghum molasses at her grandma’s table, or practicing piano instead of doing dishes, or being sweet sixteen and never kissed (while crossing her fingers). She enjoyed a traditional chicken dance during each birthday celebration well into her 100’s and never passed up a scoop of ice cream with fresh raspberries.

She is survived by a son, Robert Toussaint (Jean), grandchildren; Susan and Ann Toussaint, Barbara (Mike) Fedor, Nancy (Bill) Carpenter, Kitty (Terry) Olsen, David (le) Toussaint, six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert A. Toussaint, two sons, Herbert C. Toussaint and James Toussaint and one great-grandchild.
