An Old Veteran Gone.

Conesville, May 24.—On Friday morning, May 20, 1898, the spirit of Thomas Pomeroy was loosened from its earthly tenement and winged its flight to the great beyond. Deceased had been in failing health for some time, and he had set his house in order, for he was sure his days were almost numbered. For some weeks he had suffered intensely, being compelled to sit in a chair not being able to breathe when in a reclining position. Had he lived till September he would have attained his 60th year. He leaves besides his aged mother, several sisters and brothers, and numerous other relatives. Funeral was held from the Reformed church Sunday afternoon, interment at Brockway cemetery.

The funeral of the late Thomas Pomeroy was held from the Reformed church at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Shelby Norman Post had charge of it. Deceased’s pastor, Rev. Fouse, preached the sermon to a packed house. The mournful procession from the church to the cemetery was one of the largest ever seen in this township. As the Sabbath sun was nearing the western horizon, and the landscape was beautiful and peaceful in this quiet valley, it seemed strange to hear martial music floating on the air. Taps were sounded and all that was mortal of Thomas Pomeroy was consigned to its last long home by his comrades.
