ONE OF MT VERNON 'S BEST WOMEN IS DEAD

Mrs Adelia Stratton, Widow of Ben Stratton , Died at 7:20 last night at the age of almost 84 years.

Mrs. Stratton had been confined to her bed sense last Friday and her death was due to the infirmities of age.
Mrs. Stratton was born in West Liberty Iowa April 24, 1844 . She married Benjamin Clark Stratton Nov. 13, 1866. Before marriage she was Miss Adelia Gregg,Daughter of Asa Gregg well know Pioneer of Iowa.
Ben and Adelia located in Mt. Vernon in 1873 From West Liberty and spent the remainder of their lives in Mt Vernon.

A brother , charles Gregg of Idaho, and a sister, Mrs.Charlotte Wright of Haswell Colo., Survive.
Mrs. Stratton was very domestic in her tastes and loved her home and all that home implied. Her home was her constant thought and care, and her greatest desire was to minister to the welfare and happiness of her loved ones. No duty was overlooked , no responsibility slighted and no act of love that could be was ever neglected by her.
The influence of a true mother's love, the inspiration of one who lives her life for her dear loved ones and makes a home for themin the fullest sense of the word cannot be estimated.
No love, no power on earth, nothing equals the self sacrificeing love of the true mother, and such was Mrs. Stratton in the fullest sense of the word, and her children have reason to call themselves blessed.
A busy and useful life has ended , and the peace of death succeeds the trials of this life painless and she sleeps the sleep of the righteous.
Mrs Stratton joined the Presbyterian church early and never united with any other church after coming to Mt Vernon. She suffered much with rheumatism of late and seldom left her home, but aside from the natural weakness of age her health was reasonably good and her mind was remarkably clear to the end.
