ALEXANDER SMITH CALLED IN DEATH

Services for Aged Muscatine Resident to Be Held Monday Afternoon

Alexander Smith, 79, a resident of Muscatine for the past 44 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anna Vaupel, 1100 West Third Street, Friday at 9:35 pm. He had been in failing health for some time.

The son of William and Isabel Middleton Smith, he was born July 7, 1855 in Knox county, Ill. When four years of age, he moved with his parents to a farm near Parsons, Kas. For the past 44 years, he has resided in Muscatine.

Mr. Smith married to Adeline Pippin, and she preceded him in death about 35 years ago.

Surviving are one son, Alex Smith of Toronto, Can.; one daughter, Mrs. Anna Vaupel of Muscatine; sister, Mrs. Ann F. Wilson of Mound Valley, Kas.; five grandchildren, George and Mary Smith of Olympia, Wash., Edward and Maynard Vaupel of Muscatine; and numerous nieces and nephews in the vicintiy of Parsons, Kas. One son, will H. Smith of Olympia, Wash. died six years ago.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Mevera Funeral Home, Monday, at 2 pm with the Rev. John Blough, pastor the Mulford Cogregational church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. The body wil remain at the funeral home until final rites are held.
