MUSCATINE, Iowa - Howard J. Althaus, 81, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Unity Hospital.

Services will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1919, in Davenport, the son of Howard and Alice Prather Althaus. He married Myrel P. 'Tootie' Van Arkel on January 22, 1944, in Muscatine.

He retired from the Carver Pump Co. after 35 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Eddie 'Peggy' Rosa of Allentown, PA; and three nephews, Lee Wayne Phillips, Merwyn Phillips, and Clayton Van Arkel all of Muscatine.

He was preceded by his parents, his wife in 1997, and one sister, Violet Thompson.
