Aged Veterinary Surgeon is Dead
Complication of ailments fatal to Dr. John Eade
Pioneer Veterinarian Dies at Home Following Extended Illness - Came to Iowa in 1874
Dr. John Eade, for more than 50 years in successful practice as a veterinarian and a resident of Muscatine for 49 years, died at 9:15 o'clock last night following an extended illness at his home, 709 East Fifth street. Death was due to a complication of ailments which had confined him to his bed for the last 10 days. He was 76 years old.
He was born Feb. 14, 1847, in Cornwall, England, coming to this country with his parents when three years old. When 17 years old the civil war broke out and he enlisted in the Fifty-seventh Illinois Volunteer infantry, serving until the close of the war. After being honorably discharged, he began the practice of veterinary surgery, having learned the art from his father in earlier years while attending school.
He practiced in Grant and Lafayette counties, Wisconsin, and later in Jo Daviess county, Illinois, but in 1872 located at Onawa, IA., and in 1874 came to Muscatine.
He married Miss Ella Harrison, Nov. 8, 1876 to which union two children were born, one of whom preceded him in death by five years.
Besides his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H.R. Othmer of Muscatine.
He was a member of the G.A.R.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the home. The Rev. Ira Hawley of the United Brethren church will officiate. Burial will be made in Greenwood Cemetery.
