Ruth Bollinger was born on Feb. 3, 1913, in Muscatine, the daughter of Edwin and Bessie Schreurs Schoemaker. She married Harold Morgan Bollinger on Nov. 13, 1933, in Muscatine.

Ruth was active in her community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for 79 years. She sang in the church choir and belonged the AMOMA Class and Esther Circle. She also played the piano in the Beginner's Department for many years. In the early 1940's, due to the shortage of nurses after the war, she volunteered as a nurse aid at Bellevue Hospital. She also was an avid volunteer for the Republican Party.

Ruth enjoyed people so she worked at local businesses in Muscatine including Whitsitt's, Walkers Jewelry Store and Abby's Clothing Store.

First and foremost, Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her loved ones. Gathering with family to sing around the piano after a delicious meal prepared by her was the highlight of many of her days.

Survivors include two sons, Edwin Robert Bollinger of Muscatine, and Douglas B. Bollinger and his wife, Jeanne, of Phoenix, Arizona; three daughters, JoAnne Gibson and her husband, Monte, of Peoria, Ill, Beth Campbell and her husband, Rod, of Davenport, and Debra Smith and her husband, Jeffrey, of Sandy, Utah; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gordon Schoemaker of Muscatine; and her homecare givers, Pat Graham and Donna Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, on Dec. 8, 1972, and one brother, Russell Schoemaker.
