WAPELLO, Iowa -- Janet A. Cabel, 68, Wapello, formerly of Bettendorf, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine, after an extended illness.

Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Mrs. Cabel was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Muscatine, the daughter of Louis and Violet Edgington O'Brien. She was first married to James Martens. She later married Kenneth R. Cabel Aug. 23, 1984, in Davenport. He preceded her in death May 28, 1987.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed her family and friends. In past years she enjoyed camping and fishing, jigsaw puzzles and playing bingo with friends in Bettendorf.

Survivors include a son, Mike Martens of Milan, Ill.; a granddaughter, Maggie; a step-daughter, Lynette Jester of Keosauqua; three step-sons, Gary Cabel of Bettendorf, Wayne Cabel of Davenport and David Cabel of Bettendorf; six step-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruby Bosten of Eaton, Ohio, Peggy Deitiering of Poway, Calif., Shirley Howell of Muscatine and Ruth O'Brien of Wapello; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; and a brother, Louis Eugene O'Brien.
