Officials discover woman dead in car, A New Boston, IL woman was found dead Friday after her car apparently left the road and drove into a field near Boston.

Violet Smith, 51, of New Boston was pronounced dead at the scene Friday morning, a spokes-woman for the Mercer County Sheriff's Department said.

The one car accident occurred on Illinois Route 17 on a curve just north of New Boston. It was discovered about 7:20 a.m. but apparently occurred sometime during the night, officials said.

The Mercer County Sheriff's Department and Coroner Jim Earl are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

New Boston IL 51, formerly of Muscatine, died Friday following a car accident Thursday night north of here.

Services are Monday at the George Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Lonnie Ridenour, Silvin Reed Jr., Kevin Douglas, Wayne Plowman, LeRoy Maylone and Nick Pulliam.

She is the daughter of Fred and Hellen Keller Smith she was born June 10, 1936 in Iowa City. She married Richard Reed March 1, 1953 in Muscatine.

She lived in Muscatine most of her life before moving to New Boston one year ago.

Survivors are three sons, Silvin Reed, Rick Reed and Allen Reed all of Muscatine, one daughter Anita Maylone, Muscatine; one sister Marie Pulliam Muscatine and six grandchildren.

Her husband, her parents and one brother preceded her in death.
No relation Louise was a friend of mine.
