Rites set for traffic victim
A rural Muscatine resident died Monday afternoon in a head-on collision on Iowa 22, about 2 half miles east of Muscatine.

Bernice M. Bell 50, Rt. 3 was killed when the car she was driving collided with a car driven by Bates J. Beltz, 21, 613 and half E. 7th st.

Beltz was listed in critical condition today at University Hospital, Iowa City, with multiple injuries.

The accident occurred about 3:10 p.m.

Services for Mrs. Bell will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Berniece Bell was born Oct. 28, 1925 in Lockwood, Mo., the daughter of George and Mamie Hidlebaugh James. Her marriage to Lawrence Bell took place Jan. 13, 1965 in Illinois. She was a resident of Muscatine most of her life, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and owned and operated Berniece's Beauty Shop.

She is survived by her husband, one son Larry A. Bell at home, her father George James of Muscatine, six brothers, Marvin James of Garner, Mont., Arthur James of Ursa, Ill., Lawrence James of St. Louis, Mo., Max James of Crocker, Mo., Kenneth James of St. Ann Mo., and Robert James of Peoria Ill., four sisters, Mrs. Herman (Ruth) Reist, and Mrs. Albert (Willadean) Fordham both of Muscatine, Mrs. Dale (Mary) Jones of Fort Madison, and Mrs. Joe (Carol) Frisco of Peoria, Ill.

Preceding her in death were her mother and one brother.
