MUSCATINE, Iowa - Billy G. Peterson, 56, Muscatine, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at his home in Muscatine following a courageous battle with cancer.

The Rev. Sharon Phillips will officiate the services. Casket Bearers are Jerime Hein, Dick Estabrook, Bill Rose, Robert McLaughlin, Harold Todd and Tim Hyink. Honorary Casket Bearers are Jack Cromer, Everett Reinier, and John Hesseling. Burial will be at the Illinois City Cemetery with Military Rites by the combined units of the VFW Post #1565 and the American Legion Post #27.

Mr. Peterson was born March 11, 1949, in Muscatine, the son of Clinton A. and Eva L. Wakefield Peterson. He married Thelma L. Nesbit Sept. 27, 1969, in Muscatine.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969 in the Vietnam War in the #196 Light Infantry Brigade.

He owned and operated his own lawn care service and was employed as a meat cutter at various meat lockers for 28 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, caring for his pets, Sunday drives with his wife, fishing, mushroom hunting and working in the yard with his flowers.

He was a member of the Jesus Mission Church and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, the Rev. Jeffrey S. Peterson and his wife, the Rev. Cindy of Muscatine, Timothy A. Peterson and his wife, Jill of Wilton, William G. Peterson and his wife, Brandy of Muscatine and James W. Peterson and his wife, Angie of Tipton; one daughter, Shantel Barnard and her husband, Joseph of Muscatine; two brothers, Clint Peterson and Leroy King, Jr. both of Muscatine; five sisters, Elizabeth Cromer and her husband, Jack, Helen McLaughlin and her husband, Robert, Nancy Reinier and her husband Everett, Eileen Todd and her husband, Harold and Rosalin Hyink and her husband Tim all of Muscatine; 19 grandchildren and special friend and cousin Dick Estabrook and his wife Connie of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several nieces and nephews.
