HAWKEYE RANGERS – This fine looking company of Cavalry, from Clinton county, under Capt. Leffingwell, arrived at ten o’clock Friday night. The Rangers number 98 men. They started on their march for Burlington at noon Saturday, having had about twelve hours rest after their long march of the preceding day, from Dewitt to this city. Our citizens were highly pleased with the Rangers, and showed them many attentions. The brass band escorted them through the city and about three miles on the Burlington road.

Capt. Wm. E. Leffingwell, by whose efforts this company was formed, is a well known citizen of this State, having held several responsible offices in Clinton county, and been Judge of that District. He has always been identified with the Democratic party, and is known as one of its most talented leaders. He was some years since a resident of this place and his parents still reside here, being among our oldest and most esteemed citizens. Capt. Leffingwell and his gallant Rangers have the warmest sympathies and best wishes of the people of Muscatine. They know him to be fearless and true, and that if his men have the opportunity they will distinguish themselves on the battlefield.

NEW ADJUTANT GENERAL. – Ex-Gov. N. B. Baker of Clinton county, has been appointed Adjutant General in place of General Bowen. Gov. Baker is a Union Democrat, and in all respects a fit man for the place, having served in a similar capacity in New Hampshire.
