Josiah Walker Rummells, Sr was born 1 Dec 1831, in Lewisbury, York, PA to Richard and Susanna (Walker) Rummells. He died 20 Mar 1910 in Nichols, Muscatine, IA, and is buried in North Prairie Cemetery, West Liberty, Muscatine, IA.

He married Amanda Squibb, daughter of Eli and Sarah (Holtz) Squibb on 7 Apr 1853, in Dillsburg, York, PA. He came to Muscatine county, IA in about 1880.

They had 8 children: Josiah Walker "Silas" 1869-1956 (Della Mae Coyner); Henry Nathan 1853-1935 (Caroline Kelch); Eliza Emma 1854-1889 (Israel Garrison Cookson and Joseph Miller); Susan Jayne 1859-1944; Mary Amanda 1861-1953 (Robert D Stepp); John Richard 1863-1949 (Anges M Plumly); Lydia M 1867-1942 (Henry Schomberg); and Sarah Margaret 1857-1944 (William V Few).

He embarked in the general merchandise business, in Nichols, in 1882 with his son Silas.
