Patrick (b. 15 Aug 1831 Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland d. 18 Jan 1905 Wichita, Ks.)is mentioned in the Muscatine City Directory in 1859, 1866 as a cabinet maker. In 1869, a Patrick Murphy is mentioned as a clerk. After his wife's death, Patrick went to live with son George in Wichita, Ks. He helped name in part granddaughter May Anastasia Matilda Murphy, after his wife Matilda. Pipe in kouth, he was quoted as saying: "We are the finest thing to come out of Ireland, but look at the bunch os pups we raised."

Patrick Murphy, aged 73 years,, passed away yesterday evening at 6 o'clock, at the St. Francis hospital, after an illness of two weeks. He leaves 2 sons, Geo. A., of this city, and WIlliam J., of Muscatine, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Friday mroning from the Cathedral.
