RED OAK SUN, Friday, Oct 20, 1893:

"Death of Ephraim Hawkins.

Ephraim Hawkins, father of Geo. Hawkins and Mrs. Erial Stevens, died at the home of the latter on Saturday night, after several weeks of painful illness, through all of which he was wonderfully cheerful and patient. The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stevens on Monday afternoon. They were conducted by Rev. E.W. Bowers, and there was a large attendance of friends. Mr. Hawkins was 82 years old. He was born in Rhode Island, near Providence, in 1811, removed to Ohio with his parents when he was seven years old, passed most of his life in that state, and several years after the death of his wife came to Red Oak in 1869, to make his home with his children. He became a member of the Christian church in 1857, and lived a consistent member until his death."
