Mrs. Carolina Johnson, 87 Died Early Saturday; Rites Took Place Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Carolina Johnson, 87, were conducted at Mamrelund Lutheran Church Monday afternoon with Rev. A. Leonard Smith officiating. A brief service was held at the home of the deceased preceding rites at the church. Music at the home was furnished by Mrs. E. B. Wigstone, soloist. At the church, a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Anderson, Mrs. Myron Lindgren and Donovan Sellergren sang with Miss Phyliss Wenstrand at the organ. Pallbearers were David Lindgren, Frank Nelson, E. E. Larson, Ernest Wigstone, Otto Johnson and Gust Falk. On the floral committee were Mrs. Hugo Schield, Mrs. Gust Falk, Mrs. Alta Shogren and Mrs. David Lindgren.
Carolina Gustava Johnson was born April 23, 1859 in Ostergotland, Sweden. In 1878 she was married to Johann Conrad Johnson. In 1882, she came to the United States together with her two children and her mother. Mr. Johnson had preceded her to the United States in 1881. They first settled in the Essex and Bethesda communities. In 1892 they moved to the Stanton community, and in 1923 they retired from farming and moved into Stanton. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, but later transferred her membership to Mamrelund Lutheran Church when she moved into the Stanton community. As long as her health permitted, she faithfully attended the services of her church. A daughter preceded her in death in 1893 at the age of 3. Mr. Johnson died in 1937. Mrs. Johnson had been in failing health during the past seven years. Death came Saturday morning at 1:30 after a two week’s illness. Mrs. Johnson is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Anna Larson, Stanton, Mrs. F. Oscar Anderson, Waverly, Nebraska, Carl of Stanton, Ivan of Clarinda, and Laura also of Stanton; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
