Jesse Smith, 78

Services are today at 10 a.m. at Nelson-Boylan Funeral Chapel for Jesse Smith, 78, who died at home, 611 Market St., of a stroke Wednesday morning. He was, dead when Red Oak Fire Department Rescue Unit arrived after a 9:02 a.m. call and had been dead about seven hours, it was reported. Elder Danny Deason will officiate at the services and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Smith, he was born Nov. 15, 1904, near Eureka Springs, Ark., and was married in 1942 to Nancy B. Thorn, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Chrystal M. White, Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Bob of Omaha, Kenny of Creston and Danny, Red Oak; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Smith was a retired carpenter and formerly was secretary-treasurer of the local carpenter’s union. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses
