LESTER C. JOHNSON

Lester C. Johnson, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Lester Clarence Johnson was born March 19, 1923 in Montgomery County, Iowa the son of Veimar and Mary Anna (Dukeshire) Johnson. Lester was raised near Coburg, Iowa graduating from Coburg High School He was united in marriage to Joan Boyer on November 26, 1949 in Wheaton, Illinois. Five children were born to this union. Joan passed away on February 14, 1974. Lester farmed until going to work for the Farmers Mercantile in 1977. He retired in 1986. Lester was united in marriage to Joan Herzberg on June 21, 1997. Lester enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, watching sports, gardening, and spending time with his family. His family describes him as intelligent, caring, and very loving. This was also evident in his love for the Lord.

Preceding Lester in death were his parents; his first wife, Joan; and his sister, Loleta Udd. Survivors include his wife, Joan Johnson of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Pam Osmanson and husband Paul of Red Oak, Iowa; Tim Johnson and wife Lisa of Mebane, North Carolina; Tom Johnson of Red Oak, Iowa; Patty Denson and husband Jonah of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; and Polly Solomon and husband Tony of Henderson, Iowa; Jeff Byers and wife Diane of Fremont, Nebraska; and Kim Lang and husband Greg of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren; sisters: Esther Mae Gotberg of Red Oak, Iowa and Nina Eckstom and husband Glenn of Dallas, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the First Covenant Church with Rev. Alan Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Covenant Church or the Good News Prison Fellowship in Bellevue, Nebraska.
