Kenneth Lee Stone, 83, Red Oak, formerly of Stanton, died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak.

Kenneth Stone, the son of Clyde Lester and Etta ( Kellogg ) Stone was born July 6, 1931, in Braddyville. Ken was raised in Braddyville and graduated from high school in 1949. He then attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda and played basketball for them. Ken entered the U.S. Navy in 1951, serving during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1955, Ken attended Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville.

He married Ruth D. Eilers, May 25, 1956 in Clarinda, They moved to Oakland and Ken taught school. They moved to Stanton in 1958, when Kenneth began a 38-year career with the Nyman Electric Cooperative REC. He worked as accountant and office manger until 1965, when he accepted the challenge to be general manager. In 1988, he became the first "shared" manager in Iowa with Nyman Electraic Cooperative and Adams County Cooperative REC. Ken retired on July 31, 1996. Ken's involvement in the utility business included all offices in the state accountant and general managers section, Iowa Association of Electric Cooperative Board, Public Utility Regulatory Committee, Safety and Loss Committee ( chairman 1979-1996 ), Radio Technical Committee ( chairman ). CADP Board 16 years, ( 1979-1995), all offices of CIPCO Managers Committee and the following sub-committees: Power Supply, Audit Budget and Rate.

Ken was a longtime member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, serving three terms on the board, Distric 13 conference lay leader, Sunday school teacher and youth counselor and on the transition team organizing the Western Iowa Synod and serveral Synod committees. He also served on the Montgomery County Draft Board, was chairman of the Montgoemry CountyConservation Board 30 years, Stanton Volunteer Fire Department 23 years, StantonTown Clerk, StantonChamber of Commerce chairman terms and sercetary three terms and Double Dozen Club. Ken was a past Commander of the American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 in Stanton and served on several Seventh Distrisct Legion Committees. Ken also served as the first president of the Stanton band parents and was a Sports Booster Club member. Ken was a 26-year colunteer accouncer for home football and basketball games.

Ken was an avid Nebraska football fan. He enjoyed woodworking, playing golf, bridge, cabbage, and the many years as a snowbird to southern Texas. During retirement he loved the time spent with friends at his coffee clubs in Stanton and at the Rainbow. Ken always cherished time with his daughters and grandchildren.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth on Aug. 10, 2001 and brother, Stanley Stone.

Ken is survived by his two daughters, Kimberly Sieck and her husband, David, Glenwood, and Kelly Nowels and her husband, Richard, Plesant Hill, companion, Ada Jipson, Red Oak, grandchildren, Maddison Sieck, Ean Sieck, Alexa Sieck, and Stephanie Nowels, siter-in-law, Janet Hill, Clarinda, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services willbe Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, with burial at the Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, with military graveside rites by Ernie Johnson Post #406. Rev. Dr. Kutzli will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening at mamrelund Lutheran Church from 6-8 p.m. in Stanton.

The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to Mamrelund Lutheran Church or Montgomery County Memorail Hospital Foundation. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at sldffuneralhome.com.
