Obituary

Rev. Henry Neuschwanger died at his home in Lincoln township, November 28, after and(sic) illness of about 2 years, which was caused by a fall into a cellar. He had reached the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 25 days. He was born in Bealheim, Saxony, Germany. He emigrated to Canada in 1846, and settling in the timber after such hard labor cleared 100 acres of land. After living there for 20 years he sold out and came to the United States, and settled in Osborn county, Kas. He lived there 20 years and then came to Iowa, settling in Mills county, and from there seven years later he came to Montgomery county, where he died. For 28 years he was a preacher of the gospel in the Mennonite church, a denomination the members of which have distinguished themselves by the simplicity of their habits and the honesty of all their dealings. He had lived strictly up to the teachings of his church, while loyalty to Christ was the ruling motive of his life. In sickness and health, in prosperity and in adversity, the Almighty hand of his divine Friend was his guide and his strength. He passed from Earth is perfect trust in the Savior whom he had so long loved and served. He left eight children to mourn his loss. He lost his wife eight years ago. He was buried November 30. The services were conducted at the home and at the church by Rev. R. E. Roberts, pastor of the Congregational church at Wales, who preached an impressive sermon to the sorrowing congregation from Pss. XXIII;4. The children wish to offer their most sincere thanks to all their neighbors who gave assistance to them in their trouble
