ENTERED INTO REST

Mrs. J. R. Newman passed quietly into the slumber of death at her home in the northwest part of town Wednesday morning, May 11, at eight o’clock. The immediate cause of her death was congestion of the lungs, with which disease she was taken suddenly ill Saturday and never rallied afterward. Although she had been in poor health for a number of years she bore her afflictions with remarkable patience and was completely resigned to her fate when she came to the door of death.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Jane Antoinette McDonald, was born in Brandon, Vermont, July 24, 1841, being at the time of her departure 62 years, 10 months and 27 days old. She was married at the age of twenty years to J.R. Newman and to the union were born five children, all of whom survive. Their names follow: John, E.C. and Kate Newman of Chicago, Mesdames G.S. Ricabaugh of Sciola and J.H. Goodman of Des Moines, all of whom are present for the obsequies which will be held from the home at two o’clock Friday afternoon, Rev. J. W. Watson officiating, and interment will be in the Villisca cemetery. Others present from a distance are J. H. Goodman of Des Moines and a granddaughter of deceased, Gladys Bolt, of Chicago. Mrs. Newman has always been held in high esteem by her acquaintances and neighbors because of her Christian character and genial disposition.

The family desires to express through the columns of THE REVIEW hearty gratitude for the kindnesses of the neighbors and friends in the sickness and loss of a wife and mother.

THE VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Friday, May 13, 1904.
