Wm. H. Watson Dead.
 
Wm. H. Watson died at his home, 1020 Reed –st., at 10:30 o’clock Tuesday night, February 27, from Bright’s disease following illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were held at the home at 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Alex. Telfer, an old friend of Mr. Watson, preaching the funeral sermon. Rev. F. N. Willis, D. D., of the M. E. church, assisted in the service. The remains were brought to Elliott Thursday morning where a short service was held at the Lowman church and burial was in the Lowman cemetery.

The singing was by E. S. Foster, Mrs. F. J. Brodby, Fred Potter and Chas. O. Briggs.

Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Junk, from Wakefield, Neb.; Mrs. Armilda Stewart; Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Watson and J. M. Watson of Mediapolis; D. W. Watson of Chariton; Mr. and Mrs. Westfall of Clovis, N. Mex.; V. O. Hallcock of Elliott.

Mr. Watson was a native of Iowa. He was born in Des Moines county, March 31, 1849, and was married at Mediapolis, April 13, 1876, to Miss Mary Ann Todd. They resided there until 1884, when they moved to a farm near Elliott. Mrs. Watson died there in May 13, 1895, but Mr. Watson continued to reside in that neighborhood until a year ago, when he moved to Red Oak.

Mr. Watson was the father of seven children, three of whom are dead. The surviving ones are: S. R. Watson, of Mediapolis; Mrs. V. O. Hallcock, of Elliott; Mrs. Oscar Junk, of Wakefield, Neb.; Miss Edna Watson, of Red Oak. There are also three brothers and two sisters living, as follows: J. M. Watson of Mediapolis; D. W. Watson, of Chariton; J. J. Watson, of Oklahoma; Mrs. W. A. Humphrey, of Red Oak; Mrs. Stewart, of Mediapolis.

Mr. Watson was a member of the United Brethren church. He was a good man and while he had lived in Red Oak only a short time had made many friends there. These friends join with the many in and near Elliott who sorrow in his death and extend sympathy to the bereaved ones.
