Harry F. Brown, born and reared in Red Oak and one of the early day city clerks of the city, a brother of H. R. (Bert) Brown of Red Oak, died at his home in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, Sunday, January 24, 1937. About a year ago he was operated on for a carbuncle, which affected his heart, finally and caused his death.

Funeral services were held in Oak Park Tuesday afternoon and the body was taken to Red Oak arriving here Wednesday morning, and was taken direct to Evergreen cemetery for burial in the family lot, where his mother and father are buried. The body was accompanied to Red Oak by his two sons and A. A. Koeber of Oak Park.

Harry F. Brown was born in Red Oak December 10, 1872, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Brown. He was raised in Red Oak, attended school here, and was made city clerk of Red Oak, which place he held until offered a position with the Neptune Meter Company in Chicago, when he resigned and went to that city, where he had since resided.

After going to Chicago he was married in Owensboro, Ky., to Cecelia Arnold. Later Mr. Brown became identified in the insurance business and died a retired insurance man. He had not lived in Red Oak since he left here forty years ago. He was a member of the Congregational church and the Masonic lodge. During his employment as city clerk here he promoted and installed the first water meters to be placed in the city.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cecelia Brown, two sons, Harry A. Brown, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Herbert B. Brown, of Oak Park, Ill., and one brother, H. R. Brown, of Red Oak.
