WILLIAM ALLEN DEAD

Funeral services for William Allen, 83, who died Saturday, Oct. 27, at 8:10 p.m., at his home, 900 Eastern-ave., from paralysis, were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., from the Climax church. Rev. L. L. Weis, of Red Oak, and Rev. Burris Carpenter, Villisca, conducted the services.

Pallbearers were Mr. Allen's three sons, M.O., C.A., and L.O. Allen and Sherman and Arthur Allen and Frank Gamble. The honorary pallbearers were Chas. Hoops, Geo. Glandon, C. Hunt, Edw. Klipinger, J. H. Klipinger, Fred Scott, Wm. Peterson, and Carson Hunt. Interment was in the Haskell cemetery.

Deceased was born in New York state, at Olive, Webster county, Sept. 23, 1845. He came west in 1870 and located at Climax, West township, where he engaged in farming. He was married Oct. 20, 1872 in New York, to Elmira J. Ostrander, and to this union two children were born, one dying in infancy, and the one who survives, is Myron Allen, of Red Oak.

His second marriage took place in New York, March 15, 1886, to Hattie Ackerman, who, with the following children survive: Mrs. Geo. Kunze, Lewis; L.O. and C.A. Allen of the Climax vicinity.

He also leaves two brothers and two sisters, Dr. S.A. Allen, of Imogene; Mrs. Ida Steen, Emerson; L. Allen and Mrs. Alice Keller, of New York. There are also ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In 1913 Mr. Allen retired from the farm and moved to Red Oak. He had resided in the county for 58 years. He was the last of seven charter members, who organized the Climax church. He had served as church trustee and also on the Climax school board. Mr. Allen was a kind friend and neighbor and was highly respected by all who knew him, and many will mourn his passing.
