Hawkins Dies; Elliott Native

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -
Thomas F. Hawkins, 58, died here early Friday from complications following an operation for a broken hip.

He was a former employee of the Associated Press, which he joined at Des Moines in 1930, transferring to the New York
City office in 1935 and to Europe during World War II. He returned to the New York office after the war and later worked
for U.S. News & World Report.

A native of Elliott. la., he grew up in Creston, Ia., where he worked for the News-Advertiser newspaper before joining the Associated Press. His wife, the former Mary E. McDonough of Creston, survives.

Services will be at Gawlers Funeral Home here at 8 p.m. today.
