Stanton Pioneer's Services Will Be Held on Wednesday
Charles Eric Nelson, 75, a resident of Stanton and vicinity for 63 years, died Sunday night at 10:35 at his home in Stanton. He became ill with pneumonia Wednesday which caused his death four days later.
Charles Eric Nelson was born in Sweden August 19, 1858, a son of M. P. Nelson and Katherine Anderson. At the age of 10 years he came with his parents to this country locating at Eddyville, Iowa, in 1868. They later moved to Albia, Iowa, and in 1881 came to Stanton where the deceased had lived continuously since.
February 8, 1882, he was married at Stanton to Hadda Christian Carlson. To This union six children were born, three of whom precedded their father in death. Mr. Nelson is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Olaf Carlson of Stanton; Mrs. John Hultquist of Villisca; and one son, Walter Nelson, of Stanton. Gilbert Nelson died in 1886 at the age of 2 years; Wilburt Nelson died in 1924 at the age of 35 and Vernon Nelson died in 1921 at the age of 28. He is also survived by 11 grandchildrenand 2 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Hulda Bowles, of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Mrs. Hattie Johnson, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2:30 at the Stanton Luthern church, of which he was a member. The service will be in charge of Rev. Mr. Smith. The pall bearers will be Swan Holmstead, John Kinberg, Axel Carlson, Otto Honett, Lewis Enarson and Henry Enarson. Burial will be in Mamrelund cemetery at Stanton.
