Dies of Injuries

KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 28 - (UP) - Frank Hickenlooper, 72, died here today from injuries suffered Friday when his bicycle, which he rode to work every day, was struck by a motor car.

FORMER ALBIA RESIDENT VICTIM OF AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT.

Albia, March 1929 - Frank Hickenlooper, aged 71, a former Albia resident died Monday morning at Kansas City, Mo. from injuries received in an automobile accident last Friday.

Mr. Hickenlooper, who formerly lived in Albia was a brother of Thomas Hickenlooper of this city. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Frank Hickenlooper Dies of Friday Auto Injuries

Frank Hickenlooper, 71 years old, formerly of Albia but for the past eight years a resident of Kansas City, Mo., died this morning from injuries received last Friday night when he was struck by an automobile at an intersection in that city.

Funeral arrangements have not been made, and complete details of the accident are not available.

Mr. Hickenlooper is survived by a son and daughter of Schenectady, N. Y. and two brothers, Tom of Albia and Harry of Garden City, Mo.

Hickenlooper

Frank Hickenlooper, the son of Theophilus and Margaret Hickenlooper, was born near Albia, In Monroe county, Iowa, June 6, 1860, and died at Kansas City, Mo., March 28, 1932, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 22 days. His early life was spent on the farm where he was born.

He obtained a common school education, and soon after attaining his majority entered the field of newspaper work, his first position being as local editor of the Albia Union. He was employed in various places in Iowa and other states in different departments of newspaper work. In 1896 he compiled the History of Monroe county, which was a full and complete record of events of the county from its organization to the time of publication of the book in 1896.

For several years he was engaged in the real estate business at Albia. In 1907 he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Waite, of Marshalltown, Iowa, to which union was born a son, Miller M. Hickenlooper, an electrical engineer at Schenectady, New York, and Miss Margaret, of the same city, who survive him. For the past eight years he has resided in Kansas City, Mo.

He was always of a cheerful, friendly disposition and had a very wide acquaintance and many friends.

Besides his immediate family above mentioned, he left surviving him, one sister Mrs. Henry / Harry Hayes, of Ness City, Kansas, and two brothers, Harry Hickenlooper of Scott City, Kansas and Thomas Hickenlooper of Albia, Iowa, and a number of nephews and other relatives.

Those who knew him will remember him as a kind friend, and one who at all times was cheerful and sociable and considerate of the welfare of others. He will be missed, and his untimely passing will be deeply regretted by all.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson in Kansas City. Mrs. Johnson is a niece. Burial was in Kansas City.

NOTE: Frank Hickenlooper, son of Theophilus Hickenlooper (1828 - 1887) and Margaret (Gray) Hickenlooper (1833 - 1922), was born on the family farm near Albia, IA.

Frank married Helen (Miller) Waite (1876 - 1946), daughter of Charles (1835 - 1907) and Ann Margaret (Miller) Waite (1838 - 1913) on October 2, 1907, at Cedar Rapids, IA.

Frank and Helen were the parents of two children: Miller Marshall Hickenlooper (1908 - 1954) and Margaret Elizabeth Hickenlooper (1910 - 1989).

Son Miller was born June 15, 1908, at Marshalltown, IA and died July 17, 1954, at Rogers Heights, MD. At the time of his death, Miller was a Lieutenant Commander survived by his wife Clara Hickenlooper and daughter Diane Hickenlooper, age 6.

Margaret Elizabeth Hickenlooper was born February 1910, at Marshalltown, IA and died September 1, 1989, at North Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA. Margaret also used the name Margaret Elizabeth Waite (her mother's maiden name).

Frank Hickenlooper and Helen Miller (Waite) Hickenlooper divorced in Iowa on January 20, 1921.

In addition to writing An Illustrated History of Monroe County, Iowa published in 1896; Frank worked in the newspaper industry, real estate business and was a watchmaker at the time of his death in 1932.
