Albia, Iowa

On February 8th, 2013, God wrapped his arms around Jim McCombs, age 56 of Albia, and took him home.

Jim was born March 17, 1956, to John and Marlene (Van Pelt) McCombs in Albia. He married Mary Seesing on February 14, 1978 in Santa Clara, CA. To this union, 3 children were born. Jim returned to Iowa in 1998.

Jim grew up and attended school in California. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in San Jose, California, class of 1975. He did drywall work and worked with his father at Custom Drywall Incorporated in San, Jose California. After returning to Albia, Jim continued doing custom drywall and worked at AYM. He then worked as a guard at Cargill, which was his current job.

Jim was a member of the Feather River Railroad Society where he helped restore railroad cars and got to drive trains. Jim enjoyed volunteering and volunteered at the Watsonville Air Show in California. He helped with the cad drawing to document the Winchester Mystery House for insurance purposes in San Jose, CA. He did the drywall work with his son Josh for the Albia Wrestling Center. Jim loved to go to garage sales and enjoyed movies. He enjoyed being outdoors and always loved nature and animals. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes when he was younger. Those who knew Jim said he was the kindest man they ever knew and that he was always there when you needed him.

Jim is survived by his parents, John and Marlene McCombs of rural Monroe County; a brother, Mark McCombs of rural Albia; his ex- wife, Mary McCombs of rural Monroe County; a daughter, Crystal McCombs of Albia; 2 sons, Joshua and Kenneth McCombs of rural Monroe County; and 4 grandchildren, Mitchell and Katelin Vaughn and Wyatt and Johnathan Wilt. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sydney "Bud" McCombs and Ann (McCombs) Simmons; and Kenneth and Nellie Van Pelt. He was also preceded in death by his beloved dog, Queeny.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 14, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Raymond Cox and Tom Seesing co-officiating. Burial will follow in Cuba Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 13th, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jim's family present from 6-8.

Memorials have been established to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. ~ The Tharp Funeral Home, West Albia, IA 8 Feb 2013.
