Carr Dies In Car Mishap

John W. Carr, 42, of Oskaloosa, was injured fatally in an auto accident at Ottumwa Thursday night.

He was the son of Mrs. Frank Carr of Albia.

Funeral rites were today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa, and burial was in St. Mary's cemetery, Weller.

Mr. Carr was born in Melrose and lived much of his life in Monroe county. He was a farm implement salesman in Ottumwa before establishing residence in Oskaloosa about five years ago. He represented the American Automobile Association.

Mr. Carr was a passenger in a car driven by Jack B. Helfrick, 32, Oskaloosa barber. The accident occurred at the intersection of Jefferson and Kruger streets. Police said the car failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into an electric light pole.

Both men were taken to Ottumwa hospital, and Mr. Carr was pronounced dead upon arrival.

His was the third traffic death in Ottumwa this year, and the sixth in Wapello county.

Surviving Mr. Carr are his wife, the former Agnes Judge; a daughter, Mary Agnes Moore of Eugene, Ore., a daughter, Joanne, at home, and a son, James, serving with the air force in Korea. He also is survived by his mother, two brothers, Joe Carr of Melrose and Airman Frank Carr of Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. and four sisters, Mrs. C. Leo Kapp, Mrs. Donald Bates, Mrs. Leo Sheedy, all of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Michael Bingaman, Chariton.
