Obituary

Mary E. Welsh was born in Bullet county, Kentucky, October 21*, 1811. Dr. Thomas Craig and Mary E. Welsh intermarried at Corydon, the old capital of Indiana, October 1, 1829. They removed from that place and settled in Waveland, Indy., in 1836, and there continued to reside, until the spring of 1855 when they removed to Iowa located at Albia in June of that year.

They had born to them fourteen children, eight boys: Robert E., David A., Samuel T., James W., Walter P. M., Theodore D., Albert G., and Charles A., the first four having been valiant Union soldiers in the war of the Rebellion, all of whom have since deceased, and six daughters: Mary M., Ruthy J., wife of William Shaw, Emily V., Susan E., Sarah Amanda M., wife of T. B. Perry, Alice M., wife of Silas Parker, all of whom are deceased except Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Parker.

Mrs. Mary E. Craig, the mother who survived her husband Dr. Thos. Craig, who died June 11, 1882 - and eleven of her children, departed this life at the residence of T. B. Perry, in Albia February 13, 1903, at 10:35 p.m., aged 91 years, 3 months and 22 days.

Her whole life was devoted to duty, friendship and good will. She was for many years during her early life a member of the M.E. church; but for the last 35 or 40 years she has been a member of the Presbyterian church. Her life was one of Christian conduct and womanly duty.
