CRONIN

Richard Cronin was born at County Cork, Ireland, in March, 1836 and died at Melrose, Iowa Nov. 6, 1924. He came to America in 1865, making his home at Boston, Mass. In April, 1868 he was married to Julia Riordan, at Newport, Mass. The young couple came west and settled at Wapello where they lived a few years, moving to Appanoose county, Iowa where they made their home many years and where their family was raised. Twelve years ago he and his wife retired from the farm and moved to town where they have lived happy and contented until the parting came.

He is survived by his wife and daughter Catherine, two sons, Patrick and William. One son Michael died in March 1900. Mr. Cronin was an early pioneer and had to undergo many of the hardships of the early settlers. He was ever an upright, honorable man. He lived a long life and his death was most beautiful without pain or suffering.

The funeral was held from the late home to St. Patrick's church, Saturday morning, Rev. Father McCormick celebrated Requiem High Mass at 9 o'clock, preached the funeral sermon and pronounced the final absolution. Internment was made in Mt. Calvary cemetery with his son. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.
