The Lovilia Press Lovilia, Iowa Thursday September 27, 1917Lucinda Chance was born in St. Clair county, Delaware, Dec., 18, 1829, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. H. Rousseau, in Lovilia, Iowa, Sep. 21, 1917, aged 87 years, 9 months, and 3 days.When a young girl her parents moved to Monroe county, Iowa.  In 1852 she was united in marriage with Joseph Barnard.  they made their home in this county for a number of years, then moved to Castanan, in Monona county.  That was their home for about 26 years.   From there they went to Valeda, Kansas to make their home with their son Daniel.  In 1914 Mr. Barnard died, leaving the wife to journey the rest of life's way without a companion.The deceased came to Lovilia about one year ago to make her home with her daughter.  For over Fifteen years the deceased has been totally blind.  this was a great obstacle in her active life, but it did not irritate or annoy.  she was kind, patient and loveable, no complaining, but in perfect trust she waited the time of her departure.The end came and she passed quietly into the rest that remaineth for the people of God.Mr. and Mrs. Barnard were the parents of nine children.  Four of these had gone, before the mother, into the silent land.  The remaining children are, W.H. of Ord, Nebr., Daniel, Valeda, Kan., Oliver, Cherokee, Ia., Mary Stewart, Lincoln, Kan., and Mrs. D.H. Rousseau, of Lovilia, Ia.When the deceased was a young woman she professed her faith in the Christ, as her Savior, and united with the Baptist church.  After removing to Castana, Ia., she united with the Church of Christ.She died as she lived, trusting, in Jesus Christ.  She kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of rejoicing beyond the shores of time.The funeral was held Saturday Sept. 22, at the M.E. church in Lovilia, A.B. Cornell, of the Church of Christ delivering the address.  the body was buried in the cemetery near the Osborn Church.Lucinda was born in St. Clair, county Illnois, her grandfather was born in Delaware
