ROBINSON, BISHOP, FUGATE, CAYGHELL

Josiah Robinson, was born near Hamilton, Marion county, Aug. 18, 1846 and died June 30, 1935 Aged 88 years, 10 months and 12 days.    

Mr. Robinson was the eldest of a family of eight children.    

He grew to manhood in Marion county and as a young man rode the pony express in which he was engaged at the time of the assassination of President Lincoln.    

Mr. Robinson was married to Miss Mary Bishop of Albia, Iowa Sept. 3, 1868 and to this union was born six children, two dying in infancy.  One daughter, Mrs. Anna Fugate also passed away in 1928.    

After his marriage he with his wife moved to the farm and from there he sold vegetables to the railroad crew as they built the first railroad in that part of the country.  he also worked in the coal mines and in the timber running a saw mill.  He took great delight in making handles for tools as a past-time pleasure.    

With his family he moved to Mills county where they resided for eighteen years then returned to Monroe county where they resided until he and his wife moved to Carson, Iowa in 1931 to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Minnie Caughell at whose home he passed away.  his wife preceded him in death Aug. 13, 1933.    

As a young man he joined the Methodist church of lovilia of which he was still a member.  Mr. Robinson lived a quite, clean, wholesome life.  He was the possessor of high Christian qualities and was not ashamed to express his convictions when occasion demanded.    

He leaves to mourn his sudden departure: three children, Mrs. Minnie Caughell of carson, Iowa, Morgan Robinson of Lovilia, and Fred Robinson of Eldorado, Kansas; also four brothers, Will and George of Downs, Kansas, and Zill and John of colorado.  He has also twenty-four grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.     Funeral services were held at the Carson Presbyterian church July 2, at 2 p.m.  the rev. c. H. Rumbaugh officiating with burial in the carson cemetery.
