Thursday, November 24, 1938John Henry Bishop was born April 23, 1865, west of Lovilia in a log cabin. He departed from this life at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 23 days at his home in Lovilia.
He was found dead in bed by Mrs. bishop, early Sunday morning. He had been in his usual health and his death was a shock to all.
His boyhood was spent on the farm west of Lovilia.
He was united in marriage to Mattie Swarems, Sept 9, 1887. After their marriage they spent about sixteen years in Pottawamie county. From there they moved to their farm west of Lovilia, where he lived the last 35 years.
He had made his home in lovilia since September, when he and Mrs. Bishop moved to town on account of the illiness of Mrs. Bishop.
Five children were born to this union- Mrs. Mae Clark of Knoxville, Raymond and Chester, deceased. Clifford of Albia and Forrest of Knoxville. He is also survived by three brothers, one sister, four grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends who mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lovilia United Brethren church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. C.S. Gowin Burial was made in the Lovilia cemetery.
