A horrible accident occurred in Bluff Creek Township Tuesday afternoon about
two o'clock, by which STEPHEN STEWART, a farmer, lost his life. As he was
alone in the field, it is not known how the accident happened. He was
engaged in cutting stalks with a heavy double stalk-cutter and in some way
got down in front of it and was run over, being almost literally cut and
mangled to pieces.

A little boy who had started to go to the field met the team running home
with the stalk-cutter, and on reaching the field found the mangled form of
the unfortunate man, who probably died instantly upon being run over. Word
of the accident soon spread through the neighborhood and the neighbors
flocked in to see and care for the mangled form of one who had lived among
them for some twenty years; and tender their condolence to the young wife,
(late MISS MARY TIBBALS), to whom he had been married but about two months.
