Obituary from "Our Poland Descendants";Letha L.M. Trebbe "John Thomas Newman, son of William and Louisa Ellen (Fowler) Newman, was born August 27, 1881 in Pittsboro, Indiana and died Tuesday, December 10, 1974 at Onawa, Iowa. He had reached the age of 93 years, 3 months, and 13 days.

Mr. Newman came to a Monona County farm with his parents when he was 7 years old. He married Dora Crum April 5, 1905 at Onawa, Iowa, and they farmed in the Castana community until 1967 when he retired and they moved to Mapleton.
Mr. Newman moved to Onawa where he made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Harold Steward.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister and two brothers.

survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Harold (Wilma Jean) Steward and Mrs. Carl (Ethel) Uhl both of Onawa and Mrs. Joe (Ruth) Kama of Oakland, Calif.; one son, Otis Newman of Sioux City; one brother, Oath Newman of Anthon, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Rachel Rich of Egewater, Maryland; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 13, 1974 at 1:30 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Chapel in Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Everett Epperson officiated and burial was in the Grant Township Cemetery near Rodney, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Leonard Newman, Lloyd Newman, Austin McCrory, Harry Newman, Harold Newman and Fred Newman.
