Nancy Anna Hanson, an amazing woman, left this earth on October 11, 2025. Nancy was born to Fred and Eva (Hoar) Anderson on January 25, 1942. She attended and graduated from Castana High School.

A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 20, 2025 at the Castana Community Church, Castana, Iowa with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Nancy’s obituary. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, Castana, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Sunday, October 19, 2025, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

After graduating, Nancy worked for Onawa Propane for a year before marrying Harvey Hanson, which turned into 59 years of marriage before Harvey’s passing in 2022.

In 1964, they welcomed their first son, Chris, followed by Steve & Ken in 1965. Caring for 3 boys under the age of 13-months was a challenge she mastered. Julie joined the clan in 1968 and Ann in 1975.

Nancy was a huge contributor to the Castana Community UCC church, attending weekly services, as Sunday School superintendent for decades, making food for countless events, singing for funerals, cleaning the church, and she never shirked her weekly plant-watering & trash services. Every year she made 300 bread rolls for the Turkey supper.

Nancy was a charter member of the Castana Jr. 76er’s, Castana Ladies Aid, enjoyed bowling, cards and baking. After her kids were grown, she annually hosted 13 grandkids for a week of VBS, caring for them 24/7 and creating a haven for them. She attended a plethora of kids’ and grandkids’ events and toted them to various activities.

Nancy is survived by her children, Chris (Patty), Steve (Kim), Ken (Wade Petersen), and Julie (Steve) Whitney; her 13 grandchildren, Justin (Tanya), Travis (Paola), Ben (Cassandra), Heidi (Corey), Emily (Chris), Isaac (Sarah), Carina (Ben), Bethany (Khord), Ryan (Angela), Erin (Alex), Luke (Maddee), Rebecca (Brett) and Cameron; and 14 great grandchildren, Austin, Baylee, Mwajelou, Malakhi, Mederique, Jayda, Easton, Audrey, Owen, Gretchen, Alaina, Cooper, Graham and Winnie; sister, Cathy Hanson and sister-in-law, Lois Jensen, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; daughter, Ann Cox; parents, Fred & Eva Anderson; infant sister, Dorothy Anderson; sister, Patsy Petersen; brothers-in-law, Paul Petersen, Heral Jensen and Brady Hanson; parents-in-law, Elvin & Hazel Hanson; uncle, Ed Anderson; a nephew, Roger Petersen and great-niece, Kelsey Pflug.
