Gordon Elwood Carritt, 92, of Ute, Iowa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Accura Care Center, Onawa, Iowa, with his wife of seventy-three years, Lillian, by his side.

A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 19, 2025, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Gordon’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Gordon Elwood Carritt, son of Lynn and Grace (Swenson) Carritt, was born on the family farm, December 16, 1932. Gordon graduated in 1951 from Soldier High School and then worked at various jobs until he started farming.

On December 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lillian L. Hunter. They were the parents of Raymond Lynn, Connie Jo, and Caroline Jean.

He loved farming, raising livestock, and gardening. Gordon also loved to travel, camp, and spend time in the mountains. He enjoyed fishing trips, especially one trip to Canada, with his son Ray, grandson Cory, brother Bill Carritt, brother-in-law Lee Olsen, and friend Tim Gerhardt.

Gordon and Lillian celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by visiting five European countries, and their 50th anniversary at Lake Louise in Banff, Canada.

Gordon was a member of several Lutheran Churches in his lifetime serving in many offices and capacities.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Carritt of Ute, Iowa; children, Ray (Mary) Carritt of Hillrose, Colorado, Connie Littler of Adair, Iowa, and Caroline (David Reinke) Carritt of Jordan, Minnesota; grandchildren, Scott Baxter, Cory (Ann) Carritt, Tanya Carritt, Bill (Amy) Littler, Andy (Suzi) Littler, Ben Littler, Matthew (Janet Kim) Latterner, Michael (Laina ) Latterner, Jonathan (Dominique) Youkehpaz, and Andrew (Dalia Ahmed) Latterner; great-grandchildren, Trever Carritt, Bryce (Chelsea) Littler, Brock (Cloe Hoyt) Littler, Becca Littler, Madden Littler, Caden Littler, Audrey Latterner, Lillian “Lily” Latterner, Joseph “Joey” Latterner, and Kaleb Youkehpaz; sisters-in-law, Lois (Ed) Nagel, and Pat Hunter; brother-in-law, Lee Olsen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lynn Carritt; mother, Grace (Swenson) Carritt; sisters, Vivian (Olaf) Sandvold, and Betty (Clair) Sandvold; brother, Lyle “Bill” Carritt; granddaughter, Ella Littler; son-in-law, Bill Littler, and many other relatives.

Memorials in Gordon’s memory may be designated to the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
