28 May 2025Earl R. Mead, 79, of Onawa, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at his residence.
A celebration of life service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Smithland United Methodist Church, Smithland, Iowa with Pastor Karen Handke, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Earl’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the Leslie F. Seaton American Legion Post #0666 of Smithland, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Earl Roger was born December 2, 1945 in Smithland, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Edith (Daniels) Mead. Earl attended school in Danbury, Iowa and later went on to Job Corps in Denison, Iowa. He served in the United States Army from May 31, 1967 until his honorable discharge on May 28, 1970 after serving in Vietnam.
Earl and Alice Riley were united into marriage September 1, 1972 in Deloit, Iowa. Alice passed away November 30, 1973 due to a car accident.
Earl worked as a welder and farm hand for various places for many years. He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants, fishing, and cutting wood. Earl loved helping his family. He enjoyed watching westerns, hunting and fishing shows on T.V.
Survivors include his son, Kevin Mead of Topeka, Kansas; four brothers, Steven (Chris) Mead, Wayne (Luci) Mead, Bill (Deb) Mead, and Eric Mead; two sisters, Mabel Mead and Ellen (Lyle) Brownlee; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Mead and Dorothy Mead; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Edith (Daniels) Mead; wife, Alice Mead; three brothers, Rex Mead, Larry Mead, and Dennis Mead; and two sisters, Esther Mead Aalseth and Margaret Mead Morones.
