Russell L. Treiber, age 82, of Danbury, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home of Mapleton, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Danbury, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate. Committal services will follow in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery of Danbury, Iowa.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa.

The Armstrong-Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Russell Louis Treiber, the son of Virgil and Doris (Boeche) Treiber, was born on November 29, 1942, in Battle Creek, Iowa. A life long resident of Danbury, Iowa, Russ was raised on the family farm outside of Danbury. He received his education in the local catholic school and graduated from Danbury Catholic School with the class of 1961.

After graduation, Russ commenced in farming with his father Virgil. In the early 70’s Russ branched out, owning and operating Russ’s Furniture, specializing in carpet and furniture sales in Danbury, eventually expanding his location to Mapleton, IA. Russ owned and operated Russ’s Furniture for over 40 years before retiring.

Russ continued farming along side his son Tony for the following years up until his health no longer allowed him to.

In his youth, Russ enjoyed playing slow pitch softball on the local men’s league. He was a proud grandfather and loved spending time with his family, keeping up with all their activities. A generous man, Russ’s favorite holiday was Christmas. He delighted in every moment of this holiday season, shopping for special gifts for his family and treasured the moments they would share together.

Survivors include his children Amy (Dave) Dietrich of Hornick, IA and Tony (Deb) Treiber of Danbury, IA; grandchildren: Colt Petersen, Casie (Dustin) Widman, Charlee Petersen, Tatum Moore, and Amber Dietrich; step grandchildren: Kayla (Andrew) Danner, Levi (Alex) Thies, and Kelsey (A.J.) Tillotson; 2 great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Russ was preceded in death by parents Virgil and Doris Treiber; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
