CASTANA, Iowa - Richard "Hoot" Reed, 73, of Warrensburg, Mo., formerly of Castana, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, with the Rev. Wayne Coleflesh officiating. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Richard was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Ticonic, lowa, the son of Louis Charles and Esther (Cutter) Reed. He graduated from Castana High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956.
He married Bertha Lalumender on Feb. 20, 1952, in Onawa. They farmed and raised livestock in Castana before moving to Warrensburg in 1994.He was a member of Ticonic Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg. He also was a member of Sunrise Optimist Club in Warrensburg.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha of Warrensburg; three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Dale Harwood of Mesa, Ariz., Dorothy and Michael Roach of Olathe, Kan., and Nancy and Rick Eckert of Tilden, Neb.; a son and his wife, Gene and Clara Reed of Warrensburg; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Barker of Castana; and a brother and his wife, Paul and Dorothy Reed of Castana.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Reed on Feb. 11, 2002.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home or directed to Sunrise Optimist Club in Warrensburg.
