5 March 2025Alberta “Blondie” Maher, 97, of Waterloo, Nebraska, formerly of Onawa, Iowa passed away Friday, February 7, 2025 at CHI Health Lakeside, Omaha, Nebraska.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Jack Gibler, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Alberta’s obituary. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Alberta Mae was born July 26, 1927, the daughter of Grover and Ola (Duffield) Mackey in Athens Township, Ringgold County in Kellerton, Iowa. The family lived in Whiting, Iowa for several years and then moved to Onawa. Alberta graduated from Onawa High School in 1945. She worked as a waitress at the Onawa Café, Corner Café, and Sadie’s Café for many years. Alberta was an Avon consultant and sold it for several years.
Alberta and Alvin “Tink” Hardison were united into marriage on June 16, 1947. The couple later divorced. Alberta and Ralph Maher were united into marriage on November 7,1963. Ralph passed away April 29, 1996.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, drawing, fishing, and baking. She was known for her yodeling and love of old-time country western music. Alberta looked forward to her yearly family vacations with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Westerns, especially her favorite actor Clint Eastwood. Her favorite memory was shooting an Armadillo in Texas with 1 shot and was very proud of that. Alberta loved life and never met a stranger. She will be missed!
Alberta was a member of the Willing Workers of Whiting, Iowa and Onawa Christian Women’s Club. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa.
Survivors include her children, Deborah Warengo of Blencoe, Iowa, John (Jody) Hardison of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Bob (Cheri) Hardison of Onawa, Iowa, Denise Hardison of Waterloo, Nebraska, Steven Maher of Onawa, Iowa, and Jodi (Raul) Maher of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren, Shannon McDonald, Nicole (Aaron) Debartolo, Jennifer (Aaron) Brunson, Hilary Hardison, Colton (Sarah) Hardison, Carla (Joe) Glass, Kelsie Hardison, Chris (Marcy) Maher, Lyse (Allen) Yanke, Stefanie (Tony) Hageman, and Lucas Combs; great-grandchildren, Kayden, Averie, Chace, Emersyn, Kallie, Oliver, Mara, Steyr, Camryn, Braedyn, Seth, Jessica, Connor, Aubrey, Brady, Bentley, Oaklyn, Madison, Jillyan, Alyssa, Clark, James, and Bentlee; one great-great- grandchild, Kori; nieces and nephews; along with many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Maher; parents, Grover and Ola (Duffield) Mackey; son, David Maher; son-in-law, Gary Warengo; grandson, Jeromy Hardison; sisters, Doris (Lyle) Cockerton, Dorothy (Tex) Dutton, and Roberta (Bill) Funkhouser; and brothers, Howard (Ruby) Mackey, Hollis (Frances) Mackey, and Robert (Joyce) Mackey.
