Jack Edwin was born August 11, 1953, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Lloyd and Louise (Gaeta) Trout. Jack grew up in the Omaha area and graduated from Omaha South High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Samuel Gompers.
Jack and Anna Ludwick were united in marriage on June 7, 1985, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jack and Anna went on many family adventures as he had an incredible passion for travel, and if you were riding with him, you’d better settle in for the long haul. Jack had this unique way of making sure we got wherever we were going—driving straight through, no matter how far. He took us on unforgettable trips, from the sandy beaches of California to the majestic Grand Canyon, to Mount Rushmore. Pennsylvania -where Anna’s sister Doris lived as well as many of Jacks uncles and cousins lived, became a regular destination for us. From Trout reunions to the sweet excitement of Hershey Park to the rumble of the Harley Davidson factory we looked forward to our summer trips.
Jack spent much of his off time playing softball with his brother RC, bowling with his mom and brothers, playing card games at his mom’s house with his family and he loved to hit the golf course with his friends. His all-time favorite pastime was watching football on television. Jack would often rope you into a bet on who would win only to later find out that he already knew the outcome of the game being wagered on.
Jack held many jobs, whether it was working at a winery, keeping watch as a security guard, or cooking in restaurants. He had a special gift for cooking breakfast—no one could flip pancakes like Jack or make eggs quite like he did. He always knew what you liked and began preparing it for you the minute he saw you walk through the door.
After Anna passed away on August 2, 2001, Jack spent most of his time with his mom and brothers but loved visiting his grandchildren. Jack went to many dance recitals, birthday parties, graduations and weddings celebrating the grandchildren and most recently moved to Moorhead, Iowa where he enjoyed hopping on his famous orange pride scooter to make his rounds visiting grandchildren and his pal Great Dane-Bud.
He is survived by his mother, Louise Gates of Omaha, Nebraska; children, Todd (Julie) Ludwick of Omaha, Nebraska, Christina (Todd) Haug of Moorhead, Iowa, Michelle Norman of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ricky Malik of Omaha, Nebraska; fifteen, grandchildren; fifteen, great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam (Sandy) Trout of Omaha, Nebraska, Charlie (Bev) Trout of Omaha, Nebraska, Bucky (Bridget) Trout of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Les Trout, Tony (Pam) Trout of Omaha, Nebraska, and Don Gates of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Barbara (J.R.) McGowen of Holdrege, Nebraska; brothers-in-law, Dale Scheef of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jeff Mann of Wallingford, Connecticut; sisters-in-law, Donna Trout of Omaha, Nebraska, and Doris Boyle of Albion, Pennsylvania; and many other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna L. Trout; father, Lloyd C. Trout Sr.; sister, Sandra Scheef; brother, RC Trout; brother-in-law, Scott Boyle, sister-in-law, Erika Man; and great-grandson, Orson Ochoa.
Memorials may be sent to The Peter A. Hansen Post 365, American Legion at Moorhead, Iowa or to a local American Legion of your choosing.
