26 June 2024Joanne Schnell, age 87, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, formerly of Turin, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 24, 2024 at her home.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. memorial service on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee. Arrangements by Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at Belvidere Cemetery, Rural Turin, Iowa, with arrangements by Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
She was born July 22, 1936 in Pisgah, IA, the daughter of Raymond & Doris (Laidler) Kline. Joanne married Lorne Schnell on September 25, 1960 in Turin, IA. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2000.
Joanne was an educator at Northeastern Clinton Central School, Kankakee Area Career Center, and Olivet Nazarene University. She was a Master Gardener. Joanne was a member of the Minerva Club of Kankakee County, Delta Kappa Gamma of Kankakee County, Iowa State & Suny Plattsburgh State Alumni Association, and The Friends of Bourbonnais Library Board and Wednesday Book Club. Additionally she was a Kankakee Valley Adult Literacy Tutor as well as the Alive Coordinator at Kankakee Community College.
Joanne was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee.
Surviving are two sons, David (Gina) Schnell of Coronado, CA and Michael Schnell of Warner Springs, CA; two daughters, Jennifer Dearborn of Manchester, NH and Julia Boicken of Bradley; five grandchildren, Jake Dearborn, Emma Boicken, Eric Schnell, Evan Schnell, and Gunner Boicken; and her caregivers, Rebecca Osborne and Kristine Blum.
In addition to her husband, Lorne Schnell. Joanne is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Allan Kline; and one daughter-in-law, Lisa Schnell.
