Warren Wayne Thies was born January 12, 1934, the son of Fritz and Ellen (Borchedt) Thies. He passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa.

Warren was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute, Iowa. He received his education at Ute Public School and graduated with the class of 1952. After completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to Patricia McCullough, January 27, 1955, at Trinity Episcopal Church of Denison. After getting married, the couple resided in Augusta, Georgia, where Warren was stationed with the United States Army. After being honorably discharged on November 9, 1955, the couple settled on a farm near Soldier, Iowa. Where Warren lived out his life’s passion of farming.

In 1966, they relocated to a farm south of Ute and lived there until 1999 when they moved into town. The couple were blessed with four children: Randy, Sandy, Steve and Jerry. In 2006, Pat passed away unexpectedly. In 2009, Warren married Barbara Timm and they continued to live in Ute.

Warren was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father and great-great grandfather. When he wasn’t farming he could be found with his true pride and joy- his grandkids. There was always a grandkid in his shadow or he was at any one of their many sporting events. He was known for the candy in his pockets or encouraging grandkids to “dunk a cookie” or two!

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and held many offices. He was a member of the American Legion Aaby Unit #442 and served on various community committees in town. Warren was quite the jokester and was always teasing, loved playing cards at card club and putting on his signature black dancing shoes.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Patricia and Barb; and his brother Vernon Thies.

Survivors include daughter, Sandra Bauman (Terry) of Charter Oak, Iowa; three sons, Randy (Gretchan) of Sarasota, Florida, Steve of Ute, Iowa, and Jerry (Leanne) of Ute, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; his sister, Judy Pohlman (Gary) of Soldier, Iowa; sister-in-law Evelyn Thies of Mapleton, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
